Description
This iron antique Rooster counterweight was cast by the Elgin Wind Power and Pump Co. around 1890. The Rooster/weight measures 17" height by 16.5" lenght and weighs 34 pounds. The Rooster has a raised identity stamp on its tail that reads "Hummer". There are three holes in the counterweight. The largest hole and much smaller one are located on the center of the base. A third hole is located on the rooster's tail beneath the word "Hummer". The central holes were related to the attachment of the counterweight to a windmill. The other small hole is related to the manufacturer's tag location. The Rooster was painted long ago and probably by the farmer that used the weight. The paint has worn away in several places but the head and tail areas have retained much of the original paint which gives the Rooster a graceful balance. Condition: Good. There are no repairs or adjustments to any area of the counterweight. A very light rust has developed in areas where the paint has worn away. I have owned this wonderful folk art antique for over thirty years. It was a rare find and will be a very significant addition to any knowledgeable collector. Thank you for taking the time to view this auction. From a smoke free home.
